The search for the Bowood Houses

​

Throughout Calne and Calne Without there are a number of houses developed by the Bowood Estate during the 19th century. These houses are of a characteristic style and share many features with one another. As part of the preparation of the neighbourhood plan the topic group has identified these common identifying features and photographed them which can be seen on this page.

 

Key features include:

• Distinctive local yellow stone

• Red brick details around windows and edges of buildings 

• Crossed L motif 

• Red brick chimneys
